Racist Food Hall Owner Sued for Mocking Black Customers & Staff – Must Pay $54,000

Indisputable with Dr. Rashad Richey

Racist Food Hall Owner Lawsuit Video – Michael Kim, former owner of EpiQ Food Hall in Woodbridge, Virginia, has been hit with a $54,000 settlement after the EEOC sued him for racial harassment and discrimination against Black staff and customers. Dr. Rashad Richey and Viviana Vigil break down the disturbing allegations on Indisputable.

Shyreece Brown, Sr., the Black former general manager, endured repeated racial slurs, put-downs, and hostile treatment. Kim allegedly called Black employees and customers “ignorant,” “ghetto,” and “riff-raff,” used the n-word, mocked a tall Black employee by saying he wasn’t “smart enough,” and canceled popular events like open mic nights, go-go funk, and karaoke because they attracted too many Black patrons. In one incident, Kim told Brown to calm “rowdy” Black customers by saying “you look like you speak the language.” Brown resigned in January 2023 citing a hostile work environment.

This case highlights the everyday racism Black people still face in workplaces and public spaces — from microaggressions to outright discrimination. It also shows the power of speaking out, documenting incidents, and using legal channels like the EEOC to hold people accountable. The new ownership has distanced itself and stated they are committed to an inclusive environment.

Dr. Rashad Richey continues to spotlight stories that matter to the Black community, encouraging awareness, resilience, and the refusal to accept anti-Black treatment. We must support businesses that respect and uplift us while exposing and boycotting those that don’t. Real change comes when we demand better and protect our dignity in every space.
